Description: The Czech name for Brazil nuts (“para ořechy”) comes from the eponymous port city of Pará from which these nuts were shipped to Europe. The tree itself (the Brazil nut) is a wild growing tree as its domestication has been unsuccessful. The fruits of this tree are actually capsules.

Brazil nuts are a source of healthy fats (including Omega-3 fatty acids), carbohydrates, proteins, fibre and minerals (iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, selenium, phosphorus, manganese, copper and zinc) or vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, E, D). They are approximately 70 % fats, 15–20 % protein, 8 % fibre and 7 % carbohydrates.

Due to their protein content they are a suitable option for vegetarians and athletes.

Use: They can be eaten as a snack or added to sweet or salty dishes.

They can be roasted and salted or grated and added to fruit salads or vegetable salads, ice cream, pudding, smoothies, etc. They can also be roasted, dipped or even pickled.
